Biographie

Endlessly uprooted. Born in Marseilles in 1958, I grew up following my father in his various military postings. A random route. Nomad against my will. In 1980, I launch into photography. It enables me to study and understand my contemporaries, to investigate what their roots, their links, their belonging to a region, to a culture are. With my camera as sole travel-mate, I’m off on the roads. Voluntarily nomad this time, I begin a work that is both a report and a documentary.
From Point de Vue-Images du Monde to Vogue-Homme, from VSD to the Figaro Magazine, from the « Compagnons du tour de France » to the « Demoiselles de la Légion d’Honneur », from aristocrats to peasants, I have always centered my photographic work on the ways our social « tribes » behave.
Aristocrats, bourgeois, peasants, workers, underpriviledged people, town and country people have their own way of living and thinking, their habits and rules.
I try to show the particularity of each group and of each individual in his community. To exhibit these men and women moulded by their rites and customs who perpetuate behaviours and values that define their identity, their cultural rooting. Exciting long-term work. In this case, time is meaning.
