An extraordinary opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed photographer Mary Ellen Mark in one of Mexico's most vibrant cultural centers. Spend ten days in Oaxaca with this renowned photographer and experienced workshop leader. Designed for professional photojournalists, documentary photographers, and experienced amateurs, this workshop will take place in the Manual Alvarez Bravo Photo Center. All work is in B&W, 35 mm and medium format, with C41 processing of film. Participants will gather on the evening of July 2 for dinner, followed by a meeting with Mary Ellen Mark on July 3, during which she will review each participant's portfolio and discusses his or her project for the workshop. Each subsequent day, participants will meet individually with her in the morning, go out to photograph during the day, and return in the evening with film to be processed and to meet with the group. Mary Ellen Mark is assisted in Mexico by Marcela Taboada. Mary Ellen Mark has achieved worldwide visibility through her numerous books, exhibitions and editorial magazine work. She has published photo-essays and portraits in such publications as LIFE, New York Times Magazine, New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Vogue, Vanity Fair, and the London Sunday Times Magazine. For more than three decades, she has traveled extensively to make pictures that reflect a high degree of humanism. Today, she is recognized as one of the most respected and influential photographers. Her images of our world's diverse cultures have become landmarks in the field of documentary and portrait photography. Her portrayals of Mother Teresa, Indian circuses and brothels in Bombay were the product of many years of work in India . Recently, Mary Ellen was presented with the Cornell Capa Award by the International Center of Photography. She has published fourteen books.
