Organize the First Edition of
PHOTO FOR PEACE – PHOTO FOR TOLERANCE
On the occasion of the Thirteenth Edition of the International Contest Fax for Peace, Fax for Tolerance
The Participants and the Subject Matter
The initiative intends to have as participants:
- the students of schools of every sort and grade, from Elementary School to the University
- professional and amateur photographers
The requirements are to take and send one or more photographs, traditional or digital, in black and white or colour, that have as their theme peace, tolerance, the struggle against every form of racism, the defence of human rights.
The photographs may be of two types:
1a) PHOTOGRAPHS in a traditional format (traditional photographic prints) should be sent to CRAF, Via Friuli 2, 33090 Lestans (PN), Italy in the formats 18 x 24 cm. up to 40 x 50 cm., in black and white or colour;
1b) PHOTOGRAPHS in digital file should be sent to the address: http://www.crafworldcontest.com (active before November,30)
In the digital works they must fill out the information that including: first and last name, city of residence, country, telephone number/fax and e-mail. The students must specify as well the address of their school and the class that they frequent and their age.
In the traditional work (photographs) they must indicate, attached or on the back of the photograph the following data: first and last name, city of residence, country, telephone number/fax and e-mail. The participants, in the moment in which they transmit their work, implicitly authorize the organizers to reproduce and utilize such work realized with whatever media but in any case not for profit.
The organizers will not take any responsibility for the loss or any form of damage that the work may undergo.
They, furthermore, wish to specify that in any case the photographs and videos cannot be returned or sent back to the authors.
Use of the Photographs Sent in
Only the winning photographs may be utilized on other occasions as well, but in the spirit of the contest and always indicating the name of the author.
The photographs sent in and not resulting winners of any prize, will be utilized only in the context of the manifestation itself ( the correlated exhibit, the correlated site, information initiatives and other related promotional campaigns) and the authors’ authorization would be requested for any different uses.
The photographs sent in, if selected as valid, but independently of the fact that they may be selected as winners or not, will be on display on the occasion of exhibits, expositions on websites and other occasions correlated directly to the contest, but they will not be available for third parties, without the express direct authorization of the author. Furthermore there will be no commercial or promotional use of the photographs sent in outside of the manifestation of the contest itself.
The images eventually published will be utilized exclusively with the name of the author indicated.
Digital Photographs
The digital photographs will be conserved for the time necessary for the realization of the various phases of the contest. Once the operations are terminated, a back-up copy will eventually be made with the sworn guarantee that no diffusion or use will be made, apart from that expressly agreed with the authors (see Use of the photographs sent in).
Traditional Photographs
The traditional photographs will be conserved in the archive of CRAF.
The Exhibits
The best photographs selected from those of the professional and amateur photographers will be exhibited in a prestigious location and those of the students at the Istituto Superiore of Spilimbergo (PN) starting from September 2009.
The exhibits will then be sent to other national and international locations, even upon particular request of schools and/or other institutions.
On occasion of the exhibits a catalogue will be published for each one which will reproduce the 100 winning photographs for each group and which will be sent free to the photographers selected to participate in the exhibit.
Duration of the Contest
The participants in the initiative (individual students or individual photographers) may send the photographs to CRAF and/or Graphistudio starting from 8:00 a.m. November 30, 2008; the deadline for sending the photographs in has instead been fixed for 12:00 p.m. May 30, 2009.
The Commission of Judges
A special Commission, composed of communication experts, art critics, photographers and representatives of the School establishment, on the basis of the adherence to the proposed themes and the efficacy of the message will select up to 100 photographs from the student section and from the section of the adult photographers.
Privacy
The Organization is committed to respecting the law concerning privacy, and to the correct management of the rights of the images. Every participant must instead release the Organization from the responsibilities associated with rights of third parties – for example if the portraits could be publishable – thus assuming directly the responsibility.

The 1st to the 20th prizewinners: free participation (including lodging) at the photography courses promoted by CRAF during the summer 2009 as can be seen on: http://www.craf-fvg.it
Those who will participate in the courses will also be determined on the basis of their availability.
The 1st to the 20th prizewinners: an annual subscription to the magazines Fotocult and Digital Camera.
The 1st to the 100th prizewinners: publication in the catalogue published by Graphistudio
The Agenzia Contrasto, Rome-Milan will offer 2 stages for the students who have been awarded prizes. One at Contrasto, Milan and one at Forma, Milan . The stagières must: follow the operations of archiviation and cataloguing of (the) images (Contrasto); follow the work of general coordination of a polyvalent expositive space related to photography (Forma) The stage could be for 3 months. The date of the beginning of the stage will be agreed upon between Contrasto and the winners
The Agenzia Grazia Neri, Milan will offer 2 stages of the duration of two/three months in the sectors picture desk, exhibits and web to discover how a service is prepared, of how journalistic stories are produced and archived, of how to realize a photographic exhibit. The date of the beginning of the stage will be agreed upon between the Agenzia Grazia Neri and the winners.
Those who will participate in the stages will be determined also on the basis of their availability.
