Biographie

Né en 1908 à Chanteloup, en Seine-et-Marne, Henri Cartier-Bresson plonge dès sa jeunesse dans l'univers des surréalistes en étudiant l'art auprès du peintre et sculpteur cubiste André Lhote. Il quitte la France en 1931 pour effectuer un voyage d'un an en Côte d'Ivoire au retour duquel il se met à la photographie. Il exposera dès l'année suivante à la galerie Julien Levy de New York.
