Photography and the City Conference 29th June - 1 July 2006 The Clinton Institute for American Studies invites for a three-day international conference examining the relationship between the city and photography.[analysing historical, cultural, socio-economic, and technical aspects of this relationship]. The conference will bring together academics and practitioners to examine and illustrate the role of photography in representing urban life and landscapes, and in shaping urban ways of seeing. Topics to be addressed might include one or more of the following themes: The technologisation of urban vision Photography and urban change Urban destruction and aesthetics of urban ruin Genre (landscape, advertising, street, architectural, etc) Space, place and identity Sexualising and racialising of urban visionn Documentary approaches to the 'urban real' Voyeurism and urban spectatorship Urban surveillance The role of photographic images in urban environment The photographic imagineering of city identities Photography and the City
