Today, 48 photojournalists merge to graph El Salvador in a year, in the exposition “Reality captured by light” referring to the images that are created from the photojournalist’s intention to inform, just as Umberto Eco declared, some time ago “that the problems of our century are gathered in a few photographs that have left a mark in history”.

The display of work is provocative, realistic, out of those fragments of life that many do not want to see; but can not be hidden, overall in a country where people pretend to build democracy, where freedom of speech and the right to be informed play an important role, which makes us rethink the society that is being formed.

Photography always surprises spectators, because of its sense of esthetic, its content –a fragment of reality-, because of its use, because of its constant innovation. That is what moved PhotoCafe to dream that it was possible to have a great number of people, who do not have the opportunity to visit an exhibition, access a newspaper, due to their economic situation or because they do not really want to encounter the country in which they live in and they rather look at it through the curtain.

That dream of Photo Café and of the workers of images has become a reality this September 7, when placing in great formats, the images to the streets of the cities through public transportation means, public bulletin boards, because they are ways to reach out, every day, to more than one million people that for an instant will enjoy the informative exposition during one month.

The images, curated by the photographer and filmmaker Christian POVEDA, that we present today do not need any type of adjectives. Stern, sharp, real, nude, sober, harsh, but overall firm and consistent, they could not fill the millions of spectators eyes without the support of Netherlands Agency HIVOS, the government of the United States of America, the City Hall of San Salvador, Santa Tecla, the enterprises PUBLIMAX and ALBA PETROLEOS, who believed in this project.

This encounter with the Salvadoran photographic images is of vital importance, because it contributes to form the puzzle of society today, so that future generations can understand this process that El Salvador lived, from a civil war to a democratic transition, the role of the mass media and photojournalists. This is the “Reality captured by light”, the most representative pictures of photojournalism, a critique and self discovery, which is expected not to be the last, but to overcome, because that is the importance of a picture in society, to talk without speaking.

Presentan 3ra muestra nacional de

fotoperiodismo en El Salvador

Con el propósito de promover un intercambio libre y no restrictivo de información se inicia el próximo 7 de septiembre la exhibición denominada “La realidad captada por la luz” ESFOTO07/Fotoperiodismo.

ESFOTO07/Fotoperiodismo congrega la obra de 48 reconocidos fotoperiodistas profesionales de El Salvador. La exhibición muestra un recorrido por las imágenes de un año de trabajo de cada uno de los fotoperiodistas participantes. El cambio climático, la repercusión de la globalización económica sobre las migraciones, los conflictos, la pobreza, los recursos naturales y los derechos humanos, son algunos de los temas que se observaran en ESFOTO07/Fotoperiodismo.

La exhibición fotográfica, con más de 48 imágenes, se llevara a cabo del 7 al 30 septiembre, en el marco del mes de la fotografía; en la sala de exposiciones de PhotoCafé; fragmentos de la exhibición también se podrán observar en las unidades del transporte colectivo. Esta exhibición ambulante ha sido financiada por el Gobierno de los Estados Unidos y PUBLIMAX.

“La Embajada se enorgullece de apoyar este proyecto, que es una verdadera muestra de democracia de la cultura y acceso libre a la información, ya que lleva esta fusión de arte y periodismo, a sectores que usualmente no pueden acceder a este tipo de exhibiciones”, dijo Marjorie Stern, Agregada Cultural de la Embajada de los Estados Unidos

Este esfuerzo también es acompañado por las Alcaldías de San Salvador y Santa Tecla y la agencia de Cooperación HIVOS quienes aportaron fondos para la puesta de la muestra en MUPIS y vallas, como un aporte a la formación de cultura en estos municipios.

Con una curaduría de Christian Poveda la exposición permite conocer diversos trabajos periodísticos publicados por los periódicos La Prensa Grafica, El Diario de Hoy, El Mundo, Más!, los medios electrónicos el Faro.net, Raíces y las Agencias Internacionales.

ESFOTO se ha convertido en el certamen de fotoperiodismo más importante del país y sigue siendo un termómetro del acontecer fotográfico nacional contemporáneo.

Este certamen se ha convertido también en un estimulo para el surgimiento de nuevos fotógrafos y la renovación de los ya conocidos; además es ahora punto de encuentro entre la tradición y la actualidad fotográfica de la fotografía de prensa salvadoreña.
