Qu’est ce qu’une belle photographie ? C’est une photographie qui fait entrer ceux qui la regardent en résonance avec l’émotion du photographe au moment du déclic.

Le travail de Gérard Uféras nous plonge dans le coeur même de la Danse.

À travers le rare privilège de se mêler aux figures de cet art, il nous offre, tant dans la proximité que la profondeur, des images totalement personnelles. Il s’y révèle une exceptionnelle richesse imaginative. Gérard devient un second chorégraphe avec sa propre vision et sa propre science de la distribution des corps dans l’espace, selon les lumières et la géométrie gestuelle.

Mais il y a aussi les moments où la danse s’arrête, où la tension s’apaise, où la fatigue produit des relâchements si émouvants, où se révèlent à la fois les caractères des êtres et leurs fragilités. C’est alors que sa sensibilité nous touche au plus profond. Il nous offre des figures d’êtres qui nous ressemblent, avec nos faiblesses, notre quête de rapprochements imprévus, amicaux ou amoureux.

Lorsqu’une telle fusion s’établit entre l’esprit et le cœur, c’est qu’on se trouve en présence d’un très grand artiste. On voudrait employer un mot très fort, mais on n’ose pas, alors on dit qu’on est devant le grand mystère qui se nomme la Grâce.

What is a great photograph? It is a photograph that makes the viewer’s experience echo the emotions felt by the photographer when the shutter clicked. The work of Gérard Uféras takes us to the very heart of Dance. Because he has had the rare privilege of spending time with the exponents of that art, he offers us profoundly personal images of outstanding imaginative richness that go both close and deep. Gérard becomes a second choreographer, with his own vision and his own art of placing bodies in spa ce, in accordance with the light and the geometry of the movements. But there are also the moments when the dance stops, when the tension drops, when tiredness causes a slackening that is so moving; when we see revealed both the character of these men and women and their fragility. This is when his sensibility touches us most deeply. He offers us images of people like ourselves, with our weaknesses and our yearning for unexpected encounters, whether in friendship or love. When mind and heart come together in this way, it means that we are in the presence of a very great artist. We would like to use a very strong word, but we do not dare, so we say that we are witnessing that great mystery known as Grace.
